Practical Application Dog Obedience stresses that the issue is not whether or not your dog can be trained to perform commands, but rather, whether or not he will perform them when the situation requiring these commands arises. i.e., chasing, jumping, biting etc. We all know your dog can sit. He sits for his cookie every night. The question is, will he sit when the temptation to chase a bike or jump on company is at its greatest? That is what Practical Application Dog Obedience is all about. Problem solving at its finest! And best of all, it’s done entirely with Positive Reinforcement Methods!
During the course, you will learn how to read your dog’s body language, how to spot behavior problems in the early stages, how to properly correct and follow through with your commands. The basic commands we will work on are “Sit, Down, Stay, Come, and Heel.” We will then take them a step further and turn these ‘party tricks’ into problem solving tools. Relationships will be built and you and your dog will lead a happier and less stressful life.
Children and other family members who will be dealing with the dog and his/her daily behavior are encouraged to participate in training sessions. It is important that children especially learn what is correct discipline and what is not. What is acceptable play and what is not. They will learn how to discourage nipping and jumping and encourage their dogs learning experiences. Children tend to be either too soft or, more often than not, too aggressive when disciplining the family dog. It is very important that they develop good control techniques to ensure a safe relationship between the two.
Please read and reread the content on this website during and after your training. Practice is the most important part of learning. YOUR DOG WILL NOT LEARN BY YOUR READING THIS INFORMATION OR ATTENDING A CLASS ALONE. This book and obedience classes are structured to give you the owner the confidence and knowledge to go home and teach your dog. Class is more social for them and more learning for you.
